Perched on an extinct volcano in the heart of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle is an instantly recognisable fortress, a powerful national symbol and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site.
Dating back to 900 BC, it has dominated its surroundings with majesty for centuries and today the castle continues to attract visitors to its rocky perch. You are free to explore the Castle at your leisure, including the Great Hall, the Crown Jewels, St Margaret’s Chapel and The Royal Palace before indulging in a delicious champagne afternoon tea in the Bridge Lounge at the nearby Edinburgh Carlton Hotel. Enjoy a fine selection of teas, finger sandwiches, rich butter scones and a cold glass of champagne whilst overlooking the famous Royal Mile, full of traditional shops and also steeped in Scottish history.

  • Minimum age: 18
  • A reasonable level of fitness is desirable as some walking is involved
  • As the Castle is a historical building there are some areas with difficult stairs and other areas where wheelchair access is limited, however a courtesy vehicle is available when in service
  • If you have any disability or illness that may prevent you from taking part in the experience you should discuss this with the centre before booking
  • Please also advise the centre on booking of any dietary requirements
  • The Castle is open daily at the following times: 1st April – 30th September- 9.30am - 6pm, 1st October- 31st March- from 9.30am - 5pm (Last entrance is 45 minutes before closing. Opening hours for independent museums within the castle may vary)
  • Tea is served daily in the Bridge Lounge at The Edinburgh Carlton Hotel between 12.00pm and 5.00pm
  • Please note that opening arrangements may change at short notice. Please check before planning a visit
  • As a guideline, you should allow approximately 1 ½ hours for your afternoon tea, there is no limit except the opening times on the time for your visit to the Castle
  • Please be aware that the one o'clock gun is not fired on a Sunday
