Little can compare to the beauty and romance of gliding gently through the slow running water of the River Thames at Oxford. While dining on a gourmet picnic you will be taking in the sights of Oxford with this relaxed experience of river life. You can choose between a lunchtime picnic cruise or a sunset picnic cruise, either way it is a great way to spend a memorable few hours.

The choice is yours, either a magical lunchtime picnic cruise or an enchanting sunset cruise. As you travel through Oxford, you will pass famous landmarks including Christchurch College and meadows, university boathouses, the regatta course, head of the River and Folly Bridge. From the river you will see a side of Oxford's heritage rarely seen by visitors to the city. You will take in the sights of the quaint Osney Island, its well-loved allotments and gardens. The majestic and ancient Port Meadow are off the tourist trail but represent some of Oxford's most beautiful and intriguing scenery, where the vast area of common land has remained little changed since pre-historic times and support plant and bird-life in abundance. At the top of Port Meadow is Godstow, where you will follow the identical route as taken by Alice Liddell and Lewis Carroll, whilst he created 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. You will also take in the sights of Trout Island, the inspiration for another of Oxford's literacy icons, C S Lewis, and his stories of the Land of Narnia. Whilst taking in these spectacular views, you will enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch locally sourced from some of Oxford’s finest caterers, where they use the freshest produce which will include all the fine staples of the traditional English picnic.

  • Under 16’s need to be accompanied by a paying adult
  • The vessels do not have wheelchair access and embarkation involves two steep steps
  • Your cruise will last approximately 2½ hours
  • Please wear casual comfortable clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the day. Sun cream and a hat are strongly recommended during warm weather. On cooler days make sure you are dressed warmly. High heeled shoes are not permitted on board
  • Cruises run 7 days a week with lunch cruises running from 12.30pm during April to October and sunset cruises from 6.00pm during May to early September subject to availability
  • The weather will not affect this experience
  • All guests must hold a valid voucher for the cruise, no spectators are permitted
  • There will be a maximum of 12 guests on the cruise
  • The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary. Please check with the venue when booking
