Experience the thrill of sailing aboard a Round the World Ocean Race Yacht on this fast moving, exhilarating day out. Perfect for novice sailors through to experienced yachtsmen or women; there is something for everyone on this action packed, hands on sailing trip. With a focus on involvement you will have the opportunity to try all aspects of sailing aboard one of these famous yachts, from steering to winching you will put these formula one style boats through their paces under the guidance of our experienced and skilled professional crew. This is a truly memorable day out on the Solent, one of the most famous sailing venues in the world.

You will meet the crew in our site office at 10.00am for a cup of tea or coffee before heading down to the pontoons for an introduction to the Ocean Race Yacht you will be crewing for the day followed by a short safety briefing. Then you will slip lines and motor out of the River Hamble into the open water of the Solent. After which it’s all hands on deck as you hoist the giant sails and start to feel the incredible power of this special vessel as she makes way under the drive of wind alone.
You will be actively involved in sailing the yacht throughout the day with the opportunity to take the wheel and steer the boat, work on the foredeck for sail hoists, drops and changes as well as trying your hand at winching in the cockpit, hoisting and trimming sails. There is plenty to do as you, a professional skipper and crew put this 60ft race yacht through her paces introducing you to life aboard an Ocean Race Yacht.
A baguette lunch is served under sail before returning to the Marina in Hamble at 4.00pm, after an exhilarating day out!

  • Minimum age: 12 (all participants under the age of 17 years must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian)
  • There are a number of steep steps on yacht Blueprint and a short ladder on yacht Taeping and we recommend that participants who think they may need assistance to move around book with someone who can give them a helping hand
  • There are no weight or height restrictions and wet weather clothing is available up to size XXL
  • This experience is available on
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: aboard Whitbread 60 Blueprint, available April to September
    Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: aboard Clipper 60 Taeping, available April to November
  • Please allow six hours for this experience. Approximately 45 minutes is spent alongside dock for the safety briefing and to rig the yacht
  • Spectators may watch the yacht depart from the marina, however most of the experience will not be visible from the marina. Entry to the yacht is exclusively for voucher holders. Your voucher is valid for one participant
  • Your voucher is valid for 12 months
  • Blue Box Sailing endeavour to run all trips on their scheduled date, however they reserve the right to cancel a trip in the event that the skipper deems the weather conditions to be potentially dangerous to participants, the yacht or her crew
  • The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary. Please check with the venue when booking

     

 

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a gift pack to you or directly to the recipient. A voucher and booking information will be included in the pack so you just need to check the info and book your experience.
