This is your chance to take a helicopter flight along 617 Squadron’s training route down the Derwent Valley and over the twin dams, reliving the history of the daring Dam Busters raid over 60 years on. Enjoy a 30 minute flight through history whilst taking in the views of outstanding natural beauty.

In the Spring of 1943, the Lancaster crews of 617 Squadron began training for a top secret mission. The Squadron’s training was conducted along the Derwent Valley in the Derbyshire countryside West of Sheffield. The mission was the famous “Dam Busters” raid on the Ruhr Valley in Germany.
You will fly along 617 Squadron’s training route down the Derwent Valley and over the twin dams:
Enjoy fabulous views of beautiful countryside
Reliving the history of the daring Dam Busters raid 60 years on
Understanding the difficulty of the crews struggling to locate their targets (in the dark!) as you fly over numerous reservoirs
A flight certificate will be presented to you on completion of the experience
Passengers will have the opportunity to appreciate this special piece of aviation history as well taking in views of outstanding natural beauty.

 

  • Minimum age: 6 (Under 16’s need to be accompanied by a paying adult)
  • Maximum weight: 18 stone
  • Helicopters are very versatile aircraft and are not usually affected too badly by weather conditions. If however your experience cannot take place due to the weather an alternative date will be offered to you
  • Please note: The helicopter can take up to 6 other participants
  • Please allow 45 minutes, the flight time is 30 minutes
  • Flights are once per month at weekends, from March to November, subject to availability
  • Spectators are welcome to watch the take-off and landing
  • The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary. Please check with the venue when booking

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a gift pack to you or directly to the recipient. A voucher and booking information will be included in the pack so you just need to check the info and book your experience.
