Tank Driving Experience
You will be pounding around in all sorts of different vehicles during the experience, depending on which location you choose, could include an Armoured Personnel Carrier designed to carry troops into battle, the Ferret Scout Car used as a light reconnaissance vehicle and still in use today, a 17-ton Self Propelled Abbot Gun, the Snowcat which can operate on snow, marshes or on soft desert sand or even a 55-ton Chieftain Main Battle Tank.

What does the activity include?
These courses have been specially designed to give you the military driving experience of a lifetime. Steep inclines and deep hollows will test both your nerve and driving ability to the full and full driving tuition will be given in the reassuring company of the friendly and experienced instructors. Your experience will include the following:
Bristol
• Safety briefing
• You will then drive four different vehicles during your experience which could include the robust 15 ton Armoured Personnel Carrier, the Ferret Scout Car, a 17 ton Self Propelled Abbot Gun, the Snowcat or the Stalwart.
• You and your crew will take it in turns to handle the controls as you drive through, across and over any mud and water obstacles in your path.
• All the driving takes place on the Mendip Hills so you get an off road track view.
Hampshire
• Safety briefing
• You will drive a 432 Armoured Personnel Carrier, an Abbot tank and a 55 ton Chieftain Main Battle Tank.
• Then, to finish the session, you’ll drive either a quad bike or a standard off-road vehicle depending on the conditions on the day.
• Presentation of certificate.
Please note that a driving licence is not required for this experience.
Where does the experience take place?
Winchester in Hampshire or Redhill near Bristol.
What should I wear/take?
Please wear casual, loose fitting clothing and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Although it is unlikely you will get very muddy, we recommend you wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty. Footwear should be sturdy and flat, boots or trainers are ideal. A warm waterproof jacket and gloves are also advisable in the event of rain or cold weather.
How long should I allow for this experience?
Please allow 2-3 hours for the whole experience.
When does the activity take place?
Courses run selected Saturdays and occasional weekdays from March to October at Hampshire and selected Saturdays from April to October at Bristol.
We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available before the expiry date listed on the voucher. This is only a guideline and we advise you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. You must book and take your experience before the expiry date. All bookings are subject to availability.
Are there any restrictions?
Minimum Age 16 years at Hampshire / 18 years at Bristol
Minimum height 5 ft 2 ins / Maximum height 6 ft 5 ins
Maximum chest measurement 50 ins
No driving licence is required for this activity.
You should be reasonably fit to take part.
What about the weather?
The weather should not be cause for cancellation of this activity, in fact the more mud the better! If however the course is cancelled you will be offered an alternative date.
Can I bring spectators?
Spectators are welcome. At Hampshire a fee of £10 is payable for spectators aged 10 years and older (this is to cover the cost of refreshments and a ride on a military vehicle). Children under 10 years are free – fees payable on the day (sorry but no unaccompanied children) .
Unfortunately NO DOGS are permitted on either of the Tank Driving site.

Your voucher is valid for nine months from the date of issue.
Personal accident & cancellation insurance are included.
Kindly note that each centre has their own cancellation policy and fees. Some centres may not allow a booking to be cancelled or changed once it has been made. Please check this at the time of booking.
